Join the UVic Society for Students with a Disability (SSD) and the National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) for this Post-Secondary Disability Symposium! This event will feature the NEADS State of the Schools Tour, which you can find out more about here: https://www.neads.ca/en/about/media/index.php?id=1312
This free event will run from 4 pm to 8 pm PDT and will be HYBRID – folks can attend online over Zoom, or in-person in the Harry Hickman Building lecture hall (room 105). All attendees, both in-person and online, must register in advance here: https://bit.ly/UVicDisabilitySymposium
The event will include:
– a free bagged meal and door prizes
– a presentation from Chloée Godin-Jacques, NEADS’ Research Consultant, on Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility
– a presentation from Brooklyn Kemp, SSD’s Education and Administration Coordinator, about the UVic SSD
– an #Access4All panel discussion about the benefits of hybrid/HyFlex, online access to courses, and recorded lectures; this panel will feature four professors (Lindsay DuPré, Jim Tanaka, Chris Willmore, and Hannah Brown) as well as two disabled student panelists (Emma Levins and Julia Denley)
– group discussion (for anyone who is comfortable participating)
Accessibility Info: There should be plenty of space for folks to socially distance since we’ll be in a big lecture hall, and we will require masks for in-person attendees. We will also be contact tracing for additional COVID-safety. Captioning and ASL will be provided over Zoom; the ASL interpreter will be spotlighted and visible on the screen for in-person attendees as well. Please refrain from wearing any scents to this event. Email Brooklyn at edussd@uvic.ca if you have any other access needs to discuss. 🙂
This event is open to all disabled folks and allies.
