Accessibility in the Student Union Building (SUB)

On this webpage, you will find accessibility statements for various rooms on the main and basement floors of the SUB! We sometimes use these rooms for events, peer support groups, and meetings!

SUB Upper Lounge

The SUB Upper Lounge is located on the ground level of the SUB but is raised, requiring stairs to access it from the front, across from Michèle Pujol Room (by the West entrance of the SUB). Accessible entry to the Upper Lounge is located beside the UVSS Board of Directors offices down the hallway with rooms B106, B108 and B116. There is a large double door entrance located after the stairs and a single door entrance located after the ramp. The room has lots of natural light with large warm white coloured lights and several warm white coloured pot lights. Seating within the room is adjustable and can be altered if needed. Accessible washrooms with a lift and gender neutral washrooms are located close by. 

Michèle Pujol Room

The Michèle Pujol Room is located on the ground level of the SUB without stairs or ramp required to enter. There are large double doored entrances, these entrances have metal door sills along the bottom of the doors creating a small entrance bump. The room has a fair amount of natural light coming from surrounding windows, with large artificial lights and pot lights in a warm white colour. Seating within the room is adjustable and can be altered if needed. Accessible washrooms with a lift and gender neutral washrooms are located close by.

Vertigo

Vertigo is located on the ground level of the SUB and is accessible without stairs or ramp required to enter. There are large double door entrances into the room. There is no natural light within the room but there are bright warm lights which can be adjusted based on how the room is being used for performances. There is a ramp that leads down close to the front of the stage as well as a set of stairs. Seating within the room is adjustable and can be altered if needed. There are gendered bathrooms with accessible stalls located inside Vertigo, at the back right side of the room. Accessible washrooms with a lift and gender neutral washrooms are located close by.

SUB BASEMENT

The basement level of the SUB is accessible by stairs and elevator.

The elevator can be accessed from the ground floor of the SUB through the North-facing entrance, straight ahead in an alcove to the right. The elevator goes down to the basement dropping you off across from the Pride Lounge.

There are two stairways permitting entry to the basement floor:

  • Inside the SUB, near the North-Facing entrance, across from the Board of Director’s Offices, there is a set of stairs (2 flights) that lead to the basement, across from the Pride Lounge and Food Bank.
  • Outside the SUB, there is a short stairway to the basement floor at the North-West entrance to the SUB, under the ramp entrance. At the bottom, there is a glass push door that leads to the Anti-Violence Project (AVP) office and support room, and Rooms B025 and B028.

SUB Room B025

Room B025 is located on the basement level of the SUB, which is accessible by stairs and elevator. To get to room B025 from the elevator, take the hallway to the right, passing the gender-neutral bathrooms, B025 is at the end of the hallway, between NSU and the AVP office. 

The entrance of the room has a rubber guard along the bottom of the door creating a small entrance bump. The room is lit by fluorescent ceiling lights, but there are also windows that allow in natural light. Seating within the room is adjustable and can be altered if needed. Accessible washrooms with a lift (upstairs) and gender-neutral washrooms are located close by. The SUB is a scent free space but cannot guarantee adherence to this policy. Masks are recommended at the events hosted in this space.

SUB Room B028

Room B028 is located on the basement level of the SUB, which is accessible by stairs and elevator. To get to room B028 from the elevator, take the hallway to the right, passing the gender-neutral bathrooms. B028 is at the end of the hallway, beside the AVP Support Room (across from the AVP office).
