JOIN US for the Campus Community Garden and the SSD co-led Garden-Themed workshops EVERY MONDAY evening this June, 2021. In order to reduce risk of COVID, there will be two groups for each in-person event the first 3 Mondays in June.

Week 1 (Monday, June 7th): GARDENING 101

This workshop consists of gardening workshop basics and will involve getting your hands dirty! Learn how to transplant a plant, massage roots, and about basic care for your plant that you will take home 🙂 This event will be taking place at the Campus Community Garden at 2100 McKenzie Avenue.

Week 2 (Monday, June 14th): PLANT WALK with Earl Claxton Jr.

This week will consist of a native plant walk with Earl Claxton Jr. Earl Claxton Jr. is a W̱SÁNEĆ Elder from Tsawout who is a W̱SÁNEĆ food sovereignty advocate and expert and works sharing his knowledge and expertise at PEPÁKEN HÁUTW, the “Place of Blossoming” at ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱ Tribal School. We will be meeting at the FIRST PEOPLE’S HOUSE on UVic Campus at 3800 Finnerty Rd.

Week 3 (Monday, June 21st): EDIBLE FLOWERS

This week’s event will include identifying, learning about, and eating various edible plants that host native pollinators. This event will take place at the Campus Community Garden at 2100 McKenzie Avenue.

Week 4 (Monday, June 28th): BOTANICAL DRAWINGS

This week’s workshop we will learn to draw some of the flowers you’ve become acquainted with over the course of these workshops 🙂 We will be meeting ONLINE via Zoom.
